Fixed-term Employees
by Rachel Moss / Ian Neale 22/08/2002    Printer-friendly version of this page

SI 2002/2035 The Part-time Workers (Prevention of Less Favourable Treatment) Regulations 2000 (Amendment) Regulations 2002 and SI 2002/2034 The Fixed-term Employees (Prevention of Less Favourable Treatment) Regulations 2002 were both made on 30th July. They come into force on 1st October. These Regulations are, as has been widely discussed, late even by the extended deadline, and should have been in force by 10th July. As such, watch out for the fact that under SI 2002/2034 Regulation 8, continuous employment for the purpose of calculating the four year period of a fixed-term contract can commence from 10th July 2002.
