In less than four hours last night this year's Finance Bill zipped through its second and third readings in the House of Lords and duly returned to the Commons. There were no amendments: the Lords has no power to amend Money Bills. The Bill duly achieved Royal Assent late today. Thus the pensions provisions, as amended by the Commons at Report stage (see Aries article), are now law (FA 2009).
